Haiti Earthquake Relief:
To the Children Heritage Foundation Friends and Supporters
January 13, 2010

By now the whole world has heard of the devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake that hit Haiti yesterday January 12, 2010 at 4:53PM. This was the strongest earthquake to ever hit the island in 200 years and it follows three equally devastating hurricane that hit the country in the span of three weeks during 2008. Even before the hurricanes and this awful earthquake, the Haitian people were challenged by mass poverty, lack of education, infrastructure and economic opportunities. There is no doubt that their existence will be challenged to the point of despair as they mourn the massive loss of life and assess this incredible destruction of property.

Yet, the Haitian people have a history of perseverance and overcoming the greatest odds and it seems that amid this despair they are calling out to God and hope is not lost. We have heard from the Assembly of God missionary we support and are grateful that he and his family are well. Because telephone lines are down and computer access are not fully operating we have not been able to reach our other partners. Please know that we are making every effort to reach all the Children Heritage Foundation partners in Haiti and will provide up to date information as it becomes available. We are most concerned for Michelet Cange who runs the Prince de Paix School in Delmas that we support (not far from the epicenter of the hurricane) as well as others in the Les Cayes area.

We are asking the members of the tCHF community to:

  1. Pray for the people of Haiti
  2. Believe that they can recover from this devastation
  3. Make a donation to tCHF on our website so that we can assist the re-construction efforts

We have already made a contribution to Convoy of Hope to assist in their efforts to help rescue and provide basic needs to the people of Haiti and hope to provide additional assistance shortly. Convoy of Hope, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization, feeds the hungry and provides pure drinking water to people in need across the United States and around the world. Representatives are in Haiti right now trying to assess the damage and delivering help. Please visit childrenheritage.org & join our cause on Facebook or access us on Twitter (@tCHF) at where we will post the latest news and information.

Edwidge Danticat a famous Haitian author expressed the way we feel best when she said: "You want to go there, but you just have to wait," We are committed to making every effort and take any possible step to help the Haitian people in this time of profound need. Your generosity and prayers are urgently needed.

With deep concern and grateful hearts,
Jose & Bernie
